Electronic Sirens

CS Electronic Siren

The CS Electronic Siren is a lineup of electronic sirens produced by Comtel. The sirens are comprised of a varying number of thin rectangular horns with a triangular side-profile, made of cast aluminum and coated with electrostatic paint. 100 W drivers for each horn power the siren, with cube-shaped enclosures shielding each driver from the elements. The design of the horns and drivers are reminiscent of HÖRMANN's ECN; Comtel was likely inspired by HÖRMANN, as their speakers are very efficient and extremely influential as a result of the design being licensed to other manufacturers (or in some cases copied). The minimum number of speakers the CS supports are 2 (200 W), and the maximum is 18 (1800 W); units with only 1 speaker are available upon request. The speakers attach to a galvanized steel pole which the speakers attach to via a side mount and can be configured either directionally or omnidirectionally and are arranged in a way that the sound is propagated omnidirectionally, with the principle being based on gap diffraction, also called Huygens' principle.

The CS runs on 48 V DC, powered by 4 rechargeable lead acid batteries, and utilizes 1 to 6 400 W Class D amplifiers depending on the number of speakers used. 16 warning signals and up to 239 voice announcement .wav files come standard with the CS series, with a live audio/PA function available as well. The sirens can be programmed to run regularly scheduled silent tests to identify faults in any of the siren's components. A weatherproof cabinet made of power-coated steel (or stainless steel by request) houses the siren's electronics and batteries, with the largest options, the CS 6-18-124 and CSD 6-18-127, instead utilizing 2 cabinets housing the electronics and batteries separately. Explosion-proof ATEX enclosures are also available. These sirens are able to be activated and monitored remotely by a short-range wireless activation panel, a GSM-based app, or Comtel's "TALOS" software. Comtel rates the CS series' output at 106-127 dBc at 100 ft and claims an audible range of up to 2.5 km (1.5 mi). The CS series is also offered by Klaxon under partnership with Comtel and are marketed by Klaxon as the "S range" Electronic Siren.

SoundBox Electronic Siren

The SoundBox (SB) Electronic Siren is a cheaper alternative to the CS, and is primarily intended for facilities that do not require the amount of coverage the CS provides, accordng to Comtel. The SB comes in 2 variants; 1 utilizes Comtel's AXIAL omnidirectional loudspeaker, while the other uses the CS arrays, arranged either directionally or omnidirectionally. The AXIAL SoundBox is composed of elliptical aluminum cells, with up to 2 per siren being supported. Each cell contains a 100 W speaker driver, and there are support brackets in-between each of the cells. The AXIAL loudspeaker has a "dummy" cell at the very bottom, which contains no drivers and is only there to spread the sound from the bottom active cell evenly. This bottom of the "dummy" cell is conical and features a cylindrical mount which attaches to a 2'5" galvanized steel pole. The CS-horn variant of the SoundBox is identical to its original counterpart, utilizing the same cast aluminum horns and drivers. The minimum number of speakers supported for the CS-horn SoundBox is 2, while the maximum is 4; units with 1 speaker are likely also available upon request.
