The Equinox is a rotating electromechanical siren produced by [[Federal Signal Corporation]]. It was initially a special order, essentially being a [[2001-130]] with an [[Eclipse]] rotor and stator. The use of the 2001-130's projector with a lower frequency sound hampered output, so it was redesigned into the [[508]], which uses a properly tuned projector to increase efficiency. These sirens can be difficult to visibly differentiate from the 2001-130 as they look nearly identical, besides the "EQUINOX" sticker replacing "2001-130" on the rotator box. However, if you look closely, you will notice that the slits in the projector are different on the 2 models. The 130 has 12 long and narrow slits, and the Equinox has 8 short and wide slits. In 2014 this siren was brought back into production and was made part of the 2001 series of sirens selling right alongside the 2001-130. | The Equinox is a rotating electromechanical siren produced by [[Federal Signal Corporation]]. The Equinox is a rotating electromechanical siren produced by Federal Signal Corporation. It was initially a special order, essentially being a 2001-130 with an Eclipse-8 rotor and stator. The use of the 2001-130's projector with a lower frequency sound hampered output, so it was redesigned into the 508, which uses a properly tuned projector to increase efficiency.
