Lightning sirens are short-range sirens intended to warn the public of incoming thunderstorms which may have the risk of producing dangerous lightning strikes. These sirens are typically placed in public parks, pools, sports fields, and other flat, open areas where lightning strikes may prove a hazard to the public. These sirens are usually pneumatic, or electronic, and typically have a shorter range than typical outdoor warning sirens.
